The November 2nd Spaghetti Dinner was a huge success - and that was even without the help of our Italian cooks, Angelo Guinta '58 who was in the hospital recovering from a mild heart attack and Dave Powell '60 who was coaching his basketball team. Special thanks goes to Dan Voneida '68 and Bob Brouse '58 for coordinating the food preparation. They must have been looking over Ang's shoulder all this time! A total of 374 meals were served with $1651.00 going toward sound and lighting improvements and enhancements in the high school auditorium.
Thanks to everyone for their help in cooking and serving, to everyone who came to enjoy the spaghetti and fellowship, and to the school administration for allowing us to use the Middle School cafeteria. A good time was had by all.
Reminder - our next Election Day Spaghetti Dinner will be in May. Watch your calendars and get out to vote.
Look for our List of Lost Alumni on our web-site. Although we may have the correct town and R.R. number for some of those listed, the box number is necessary for the postal service to deliver our bulk mail. Then there are those folks who are really lost - the postal service returned the mail without a forwarding address, or the class agents were not able to provide an address. Any help you can give us is appreciated. Please respond by email (lahsalum@sunlink.net) or by slow mail to our PO Box 38 address.
Sheary Grant Proceeds Used by the Students
The LAHS Foundation was the recipient of $33,504.95 from the Edna Sheary for Charity Trust. The students are the beneficiaries of this generous gift. The teachers and administrators were asked what tools which go beyond the budgetary process would enhance their teaching. Those items purchased this year include a computer and software for the Technology Lab, a computer printer and related supplies for the art department, a spotlight for the high school theater department, a xylophone, marimba and sousaphone for the music department, climbers and handrails for the health and physical education department, CD-Rom's for the middle school foreign language department, a video camera and program for the social studies department and multimedia projectors and a portable PA system for general use. Some of our more mature alumni may remember Mrs. Sheary. She worked at the former Lewisburg National Bank as a teller and trust officer. She was active in the community and Christ Lutheran Church. She and her husband, Lake, did not have children. Isn't it wonderful that she is touching so many children's lives today. Her legacy and generosity continue to support our schools and community. Being a recipient in 1997 ($21,000.00) and in 1998 ($37,903.00), we are most grateful that the Trust Committee granted our request of the $33,504.95 in 1999. THANKS!
LTC Jeffrey D. Johnson '72 - Graduated fromthe US Army War College at Carlisle Barricks, PA. He is currently assigned as the Chief, Medical Operations for the Forscom Surgeon, Fort McPherson, GA. Wife: Susan Pangburn, 73, Daughter: Jennifer Johnson, Caroline Trow, '98 and son: Robert Trow.
Brian Mullen '95 - Living in Lancaster, PA and working as a Revenue Field Auditor for the PA Dept of Revenue.
John Ford '49 - There was an error in the Spring newsletter. The 1949 baseball team did not win the Susquehanna League in that season. The Green Dragons at 8 wins and 4 losses finished second to Sunbury who had 9 wins and 3 losses. On the 49 team the seniors were John Smith, Jim Garman, Paul Snook and me. However the 1950 team did win the Susquehanna League Championship. Seniors on that team were Ed Asher, Gene Yarger, Earl Miller, and Wally Keister. If I overlooked anyone, please forgive a 50 year LHS graduate whose memory isn't what it used to be.
Trey Casimir '79 - I've retired from dancing and have been studying acupuncture for the past 2 1/2 years - I graduate in December 1999 and should have my license by April 2000. I'm planning on practicing in New York City and in the Lewisburg area if I can handle the commute. Also in late 1999 or early 2000, my wife, Amy Carter, and I are expecting our first child (due date is 12/30/99). I'm behind many of my classmates in the child-rearing department, but hope to catch up... Thanks for the newsletter - it would be great to hear more news about the classes of 77-'80. (Way to go Jeff Wagner, 79, keeping us old-guy Lewisburgers ahead on the old-guy Mifflinburgers in basketball.)
Kenneth Slear '51 - Divorced 6 years ago. Live alone in an apartment complex. Work 20-25 hours a week as a janitor for Offrey.

We worked and traveled in Latin America for our honeymoon. My daughter Rachel is 22 years old, lives and works in the Bay area. I miss San Francisco and my friends but I thoroughly enjoy being back in Pennsylvania and living with my father.
Dale Whipple Mock '75 - Hey everyone. I have been living in Florida since Dec. 1975. I have been an RN for 20 years this year and just recently changed direction with my career. In April, I decided to leave my position as Administrator for Housecall Home Health Care, where I had been for the past 6 years. I accepted a position with a large law firm in Tampa, that does defense work. My new position is that of a nurse paralegal. My position involves reviewing medical records in preparation for taking cases to trial. I determine our liability in each case. It's real exciting but vastly different from the patient care arena that I have been so accustomed to over the past 20 years. My family consists of my wonderful husband, Leon (Buddy) who is an electrical engineer with Tampa Electric Co. and my 17 year old daughter, Dana who is a Senior at Auburndale Sr. High this year. Hope to see you sometime next year when we hope to make it back to PA. Love ya'all!
Wendy Weightman Nolan '59 - Checking in to see who is on line from the class of 1959. I had hoped to attend our reunion but due to health reasons I cannot attend. I do hope that our class will choose to hold gatherings at Homecoming in October when it is cooler. Please let me hear from other friends. E-Mail:wnolin@sugar-river.net
Hazel Haris Lockwood '41 - Hi - Just received the LHS bi-annual newsletter for alumni and friends. I was anxiously looking for email addresses of someone from the class of '41 but none were listed. Our class had its picnic reunionthis past Saturday and I tried and tried to search the web for someone from the class with an email listing and wasn't successful. Jim and I had planned to attend this year but weren't able to at the last minute. P.S. I actually didn't graduate with the Class of '41 - our family moved from Lewisburg to Kentucky in October of my senior year - but the class has always let me be an "honorary" member of the class because I never felt like I really knew anyone in my class in KY. Jim and I have attended several class reunions. E-mail: Lockwood@erols.com
Harold Reynolds '46 - I just received my LAHS Alumni newsletter and thought I would let my classmates of '46 know where I am and bring them up to date. I retired in 1994 from a building center here in Lock Haven, PA. I still work part-time, about 20 hours a week. I find it keeps my mind and body active. All my children (three girls and a boy) have married and left home. My wife and I wilt celebrate our 50th with the new year of 2000! If any of my classmates remember me, perhaps, if they have a PC, they can E-mail me at hreyold@csrlink.net

For the last eight years I have owned Airport Taxi Service in Savannah, GA. We operate 30 cars 24 hours a day, seven days a week and it really keeps me busy. I hope to expand to the towing business at the first of the year. In my spare time I coach basketball, football and baseball at the Garden City Recreational department. I work with 12 year old inner city youths. I can thank Coach Jim Cotner and Coach Jim Wetzel for my coaching success. Their plays and drills were top notch in the seventies and they are still winning championships and building character today. Our 20 year reunion was terrific thanks to the hard work and planning of Bonnie Albertson. It was great to see everyone after 20 years and I promise not to miss another reunion.

I just had to sit down and write this letter to all of you, hoping that a lot of my classmates tha couldn't make the reunion on July 31, 1999 also read it.
I am so glad that I finally was well enough and able to make our 40th reunion. I enjoyed trying to figure out who some of you were. Some of us changed little in our years and some a lot. Less hair, more weight, etc. It sure was a real treat to see so many that I hadn't seen in 40 years. Oh, my, so long already since we received our certificate. How time flies.
I wish that more of you could have been there. Maybe next time. You missed alot of fun and pictures. I want to commend the committee that put the whole reunion together. You did a real good job, all of you.
I'm going to be looking for some pictures of my own to display at the next reunion. By the way, I want to tell Ben Betzer that I really didn't get any better grades by looking at his papers, I was just checking my answers with his. HA! HA!
Take care classmates of '59. Hope we can have a perfect attendance at the next one.
Your classmate,
Alice (Baker) Reitz
A total of 12 nominations were received for the Distinguished Alumni Award. The selection process for the three recipients was most difficult. The information from all the nominees confirmed that there are many gifted LAHS grads who have made significant contributions in their work lives as well as to their communities. Thank you to the 12 nominees for the time and effort expended to complete the application process.
A committee will be working with the high school administration and the high school student council advisors and officers concerning the award program for next year. Be sure to check the next newsletter for details.

Andrew Strassner Receives the First Foundation Scholarship
The first LAHS Foundation Scholarship was awarded to Andrew L. Strassner '99 at the annual Senior Awards Program in June. Eleven very well qualified seniors applied for the award and the selection committee worked diligently with the guidance department in making the decision. Andrew is attending Penn State - the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at the University Park campus, studying Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Andrew maintained a 3.91 GPA while being active in several sports and community programs and working. We congratulate Andrew on his achievements and thank the LAHS graduates of the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's for making this award possible.

Veterans Memorial Field in the back of the high school was re-dedicated in honor of Lt. George Ramer '44. Money was raised by local veterans groups to erect a new flag pole and place a stone with a memorial plaque in the newly landscaped area. In her presentation to the student body, George's widow Jeanne Grice Ramer Reichley '44 challenged the students to make a difference. The field was originally purchased by the Class of '46 as a living visible memorial to their classmates who served in World War II.
Bob Donehower '36 presented the Borough of Lewisburg with a $1 Million gift - a trust fund of which only the interest can be used. In recogniton of the trust, the new borough building will be named the Robert and Lucy Donehower Government Center.

Memories were sparked when the LHS marching band was pictured on the front page of the Daily Item in October. The headline read "Lewisburg High muscians serenade at Daybreak." Kevin McKeegan '75 wrote to the editor that early morning rehearsals took place in the 70's (editors note: and the 60's) as well and students experienced freezing valves and mouthpieces. The citizens living on St. Louis Street didn't need a clock in the fall to tell the time!

Thanks to the Class of '44 for their $100.00 donation to the Scholarship Fund.
Ray Moyer '63 spoke to the Alumni Board and Lewisburg Area School District administrators in June concerning his plan to create an Education Improvement Foundation. Ray, an educator for 27 years, has had a growing concern that students who graduate from US schools are not adequately armed with basic knowledge and skills. He continues his research by interviewing human resource staff from a cross section of businesses.
Because of space limitations the order form for alumni merchandise was not printed. If you would care to order any of the items, use a form from a previous newsletter or write to us at PO Box 38. Our tee-shirts, hats, or wooden miniature collectibles make great gifts for any occasion.
We offer our condolences to the families of the following classmates and teacher who have passed away since the printing of our last newsletter.
