Sheary Grant Money in Use
The books, maps, calculators, CD ROM towers, art equipment, broadcasting equipment and fitness equipment have arrived and are being used in the daily education curriculum of the Lewisburg Middle and High School students. Again, our thanks to the Edna M. Sheary Trust selection committee for generously providing these educational tools.
They're GREAT!!!!!
Seven Lewisburg teachers are named in the fifth edition of "Who's Who Among America's Teachers 1998:" Jonathan Clark, math; Nanette Jarrett, home economics; Valerie Mike, Spanish; Rudy Mummey, German; Linda Nuttall, English; Dale Orris, instrumental music and band; Kenda Roth, phys ed. Mrs. Mike, Mrs. Nuttall and Mr. Orris have been honored in more than one edition. Mr. Orris has since accepted a position in the Williamsport School District.
The teachers were selected by former students who themselves are currently listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students" or "The National Dean's List." These students were requested to nominate teachers who "made a difference in their lives" by helping to shape their values, inspiring interest in a particular subject and by challening them to strive for excellence. Many students commented about the enthuiasm and knowledge their teachers demonstrated in the classroom and many praised their teachers for their ability to relate to them on both a personal and professional level.

Scholarship Update
The goal is $100,000.00 by the year 2000! What we have in gifts and pledges as of November 1 is $22,085.00. The investment committee recommended that the funds be invested in two Vanguard accounts - a Money Market account and a Windsor II. We were affected by the down turn of the stock market in the Windsor fund, but will regain our position over time. A complete accounting will be made available at the December 3 annual meeting and will be published in the next newsletter.
Many thanks to all who have contributed to the fund. Lewisburg graduates will benefit from your generosity. A special thanks to the Class of 1938 who "passed the hat" at their reunion and quickly raised $225.00. Also getting special accolades is the Class of 1958 who sent a special letter with the announcement of their reunion asking for support of the scholarship fund. Their goal is $58,000.00 in the next ten years. When tallying the gifts of by Class, they certainly come out the winners! (Editor's Note: I on't know if they have challenged any other classes but the Scholarship Fund would certainly benefit if they would. Would another class like to challenge them???)
The Scholarship Committee is now working on the criteria for receiving the award. Any suggestions should be send to the committee at P.O. Box 38, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
From the Class of 1958
Our 40th Class reunion on October 3 was another great success. The weekend started with the Homecoming football game against Hughesville followed by a gathering at the new Lewisburg Hotel. The reminiscing continued into Saturday evening's donner at the Bull Run Inn, where Mr. John Dohmann, Mrs. Norman Falck, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Himmelreich, Mr. and Mrs. George Custer, Mrs. Betty Ingwers, adn Mr. and Mrs. George Pardoe were guests. Jim Reigle presented a terrific slide show with pictures from past reunions. Amazingly enough, we found that we haven't changed a single bit! The renewing from friendships continued at Bill and Barb Brouse Kugler's home with scrumptious snacks and desserts. We now have $10,000.00 towards our goal of $58,000.00 for the Scholarship Fund. Please consider making a pledge of $50.00 a year for ten years. Of course, any amount is appreciated for this very worthy cause. We've decided that five years is too long between get-togethers - we're planning a 60th birthday bash in October of 2000! Watch your mail!
